Director Masahiro Sakurai explained the careful attention to detail Nintendo put into making sure the stone blocks contained the most iron, just like real Minecraft.

Minecraft also opens up the door even farther to perhaps one of the most requested third-party characters, Master Chief from the Halo franchise. Minecraft, along with previous DLC fighter Banjo and Kazooie, are both owned by publisher Microsoft, who also happens to own Halo. Having a major flagship character like Master Chief from Xbox would leave Super Smash Bros. Ultimate just a flagship Sony character, like say Nathan Drake from being the absolute ultimate mascot brawler. It seems Microsoft is all for it as well.
