United Developers LLC subsidiary MacPlay announced Wednesday that it is shipping the long-awaited Mac conversion of Aliens vs. Predator 2.
Aliens vs. Predator 2 is the sequel to a game MacPlay brought to the Mac, as well. Borrowing from the “Alien” and “Predator” motion picture series, the first person shooter puts players in the role of Aliens, Predators, or human Colonial Marines. Each species in the game sports strengths and weaknesses, and the combination gathers together for balanced yet frantic gameplay.
This title brings players to planet LV1201, where a group of human scientists has set up a base to capture Aliens to study them. Predictably, the creatures escape, and Colonial Marines are dispatched to recover them. Predators (who never faced off against the Aliens on film but have done so in video games and comic books) arrive to hunt the Aliens themselves. The result is “an enormous inter-species conflict fought in the gloomy shadows of the darkened base.”
Like its predecessor, Aliens vs. Predator 2 creates an atmosphere of tension and terror as players explore the darkened recesses of LV1201 alternately as each of the three species featured in the games. 21 missions in total bring players through three interlocking storylines. And AvP2 also features new weapons and abilities for each of the three species.
